Institutional training at A Glance

Skill training is the basic need for persistence of handicrafts tradition of the State. Keeping in view of the same, SIDAC is engaged in imparting craft training courses for the artisans. It is a way to help the artisans understand the craft skill in a structured manner so that they will be eligible for wage employment in firms engaged in handicrafts production or can be self-employed. At the same time such courses intended to increase the awareness level of the trainees regarding changing market scenario, marketing scope, new designs, export ideas etc. Training programmes further create a higher-level skill base which will help in preservation of the craft tradition of the state and to take forward to the next generations.

At the State level, the training is being imparted at Handicrafts Complex, Gandamunda, Khandagiri, Bhubaneswar. There are three district level training centres at Kenduvilwa of Khurdha district (Pattachitra) , Athagarh of Cuttack district (Pattachitra), Konark of Puri district (Stone Carving).

About Course

All the courses in all levels are full time courses for 01 year. The timing of class is from 10.30 AM to 5.00PM. The holidays marked in Govt of Odisha calendar is followed by the institute. However,there will be no vacation such as puja and summer.

The Craft

The basic and higher level courses at State level covers Pattachitra, Applique, Terrracotta, Palm Leaf Engraving, Stone Carving and Wood Carving Crafts whereas the master level course covers Pattachitra, Palm Leaf Engraving, Stone Carving and Wood Carving Crafts.

Facilities

Different facilities such as Stipend, raw materials, tool kits are provided to the trainees along with hostel accommodation for boys and girls. Study tour to different places of crafts importance is being organised for the trainees.

How to apply:

Interested and eligible candidates apply for both State and District level during May-June every year. The detail advertisement is published in daily news papers for wide publicity.

Admission:

Entrance test consists of skill test is conducted after scrutinizing of received applications. There is no admission fee for any course.
